A Pern Soap Opera?

Welcome to my soap opera!

After spending over a decade in the world of Pern Fanfiction online, I have come to realize something: we are all writing soaps. Most of us try to deny it, and if we’re the lucky ones in charge of a fanfic club, we often do everything in our power to neutralize the soapy effects of having a large number of writers who all want to be the star. Sometimes we’re a little successful – often we are only kidding ourselves.

I started this blog/soap to celebrate the diva in every fanfiction character. I make no claims of brilliance or originality. I have simply collected the best (worst?) of all the drama I’ve seen throughout the years, taken it to the extreme, and thrown it all together.

I’ve never watched actual TV soaps myself, but I think I know the basics: everyone is heart-achingly beautiful, there must be evil twins and faked deaths and schemes to ruin relationships and babies of unknown origin and doomed lovers. I’ve got all that plus dragons! If scheming for the heart of a man can get dirty, just imagine what will happen if there’s a gold egg to be won. Struggles for power, love, and firelizard eggs are all fair game.

Can I possibly have forgotten anything? I plan to continue this until life catches up with me or the plot well runs dry, so there’s always room for more insanity. If you have suggestions, I would love to hear them. I promise to give credit where credit is due (or not, as you prefer!)

For now, “Season One” is still in cultivation. I expect to start making posts during summer, 2008. I’ll be posting regular updates until then. Hope you’ll stop back to see the fun!
