The Story So Far

As the story gets rolling, a running summary will appear here for anyone who tunes in late and doesn’t want to read zillions of posts worth of back story. (Zillions, ha! I’m feeling ambitious today.)

Until things get started, here’s a bit of a preview of what you’ll read about in the first episode:

Things at Shardin Weyr aren’t as stable or normal as they might appear to an outsider. Weyrwoman Galina and Weyrleader F’der have been together for decades. While F’der is becoming old and tired, Galina never seems to waiver in her drive or enthusiasm for running the Weyr or for chasing young lovers. Our story begins moments after Sopeth’s most recent mating flight. We will learn of tensions in the wingranks, desperation behind closed doors, and a little problem with tunnelsnakes. And isn’t the day after a flight just a little too soon to begin Searching for gold candidates?

Meanwhile, at Dufas Hold, discontent with a stifling life is about to do young Elphynia in, and she resolves to get away from her father, Lord Holder Tyros, and the unwanted marriage he has arranged for her no matter the cost. We will also meet a dazzlingly talented young man who wants nothing more in the world than to take his craft to the poor, uneducated souls of Pern.
